Consent prompts and the week after permission
Fresh opt-ins often receive denser push notification traffic than long-standing subscribers. Engagement insights from that first week deserve separate attention.
The week after someone accepts push permission is fragile. Welcome sequences, feature tips, and promotional offers often stack on the same device. Aggregate open rates for “new subscribers” can look strong while the person quietly disables alerts by Friday.
Separate first-week cohorts in your application analytics. Cap promotional pushes for seven days after consent. Use that window for orientation messages that earn taps into settings the person already cares about — saved items, booked sessions, or account status. Measure whether week-two retention of the permission holds. That retention figure is often a better health signal than the welcome campaign’s open rate alone.
